Overview

We were asked to supply plants for the transformation of a substantial domestic garden designed by a local company, Astek Garden Design and Build.

The Challenge

We worked closely with our client to ensure the finest quality plants were supplied for a stunning garden at a home in the village Acaster Malbis near York.

The owners of the house had spent several years renovating the interior were now keen to develop the good-sized garden, that had been laid out as lawn.

Drainage proved to be an issue, as a result of much of the lawn being made up of moss – a factor that needed to be addressed as part of the brief. A parking space for a boat also had to be incorporated, while the garden itself had multiple entry points that needed to be retained.

The Solution

With a garden of this calibre, it was vital that only the highest quality plants were used.

We supplied a number of 7.5 and 5L Buxus sempervirens balls and hedging plants while for the formal flower beds, we created a plethora of colour with dozens of varieties including Salvia ‘blue marvel’, Heuchera ‘palace purple’ and geranium sang. ‘Max Frei’.

Included in the supply was Laurus nobilis and several varieties of Acer palmatum such as ‘Crimson Queen’, ‘Trompenbug’ and ‘Sango-kaku’.

The design included a formal parterre area close to the house, with seating and a formal pond. A summer house was positioned to make the most of the sun, with the added benefit of screening the parking space for the boat.

Integral lighting and irrigation for the greenhouse were introduced to make the garden as easy to live with as it was appealing.

An extensive drainage scheme was introduced to solve the issue with surface water.

The Result

The home-owners were delighted with their new outdoor space, and have requested Astek continue to maintain the garden.
